National Forum for Action on Convergence (NFAC)

National Forum for Action on Convergence (NFAC) is a unique initiave anchored by NANAK which serves as a resource platform that has emerged out of previous and ongoing initiatives aiming to strengthen convergence for social inclusion and gender justice. This initiative has brought together different stakeholders (experts, serving and retired civil servants, civil society organizations) to share their experiences based on research and ground level actions to inform policy and bring useful insights for the effective implementation and reach of government programs and services. It is also a platform for generating better understanding and fostering collective action on critical issues and emerging priorities such as sustainable livelihoods, violence against women, sanitation, financial inclusion, and governance of social development programs and welfare schemes

NFAC consists of eminent patrons, a national convener, regional conveners, thematic experts, and an executive body including a functional management team with its Head Office at Delhi. The Annual NFAC agenda is steered with expert advice and guidance by a National Experts, Resources and Advisors Group.

The legal entity which anchors this program is called ‘Network and Alliance for Non-Profit Activities & Knowledge’ (NANAK), a society registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

VISION

To make governance of social development programs and welfare schemes effective and result-oriented by institutionalizing convergence and to achieve this in a collaborative manner by enhancing participatory processes/ norms, and building capability and leadership at multiple levels.

MISSION

To bridge the divide between government and communities, between various civil society groups, and to reach out to the unreached.

AIM AND THRUST AREAS

  • Strengthen inclusive and equitable policies of the government to reach the most marginalized and vulnerable groups through evidence based advocacy.
  • Strengthen program implementation with support of evidence and data related to socio-economic demographics in areas of interventions planned, and undertake capacity building & skills development of implementing agencies.
  • Design and institute pilot projects on various thematic & cross-sectoral convergence models.
  • Promote action-oriented research on gender equality and social inclusion as well as other new emerging challenges and development concerns of the nation.
  • Promote operational and workflow level innovations in CSS flagship schemes.
  • Appropriate/ purposive study, research, technical & technological explorations.
  • Undertake assessments / evaluations and perspective development between the governments and NFAC including its various partners.
  • Engage with the government, corporate sector and other development agencies for creating an effective CSR policy/ program development strategy in keeping with the thrust areas and focused approach of the organization and the developmental priorities of the nation.

Glimpses from the Convergence ThinkFest 2015, themed ‘Convergence for citizen-centric services with Minimum Government- Maximum Governance’. Dr Devendra Chaudhary, Secretary, ARPG, was the key note addressee. The ThinkFest included sessions  on ‘Perspectives on Convergence for Good Governance from the Government’, ‘Convergence based CSR practices vis-à-vis Good Governance for MGMG’, and ‘Regional Experiences on Convergence from NFAC Partners’.
